Company Overview

Headquartered on the I-495 technology belt outside of Boston, Massachusetts, Image Stream Medical (ISM) designs, manufactures, and markets visualization and image management solutions for the Operating Room and special procedure clinics. Establishing a track-record of innovation, Image Stream Medical introduced the first DVD burning surgical video recorder, the ISM DVR, to the surgical marketplace.

ISM recognized early on that burning DVDs was only a step towards addressing the real market need: to share and learn from the procedures recorded on the DVD. Digital videos on a DVD have limited value if the clinician does not have tools readily available for extracting the most important segments of the procedure and then presenting them to patients, peers, students, referring physicians, family members and others. To address this need, ISM developed and manufactured the world’s first medically focused video production tool, Medical Video Producer® (MVP), a software product designed specifically to give medical clinicians the ability to easily edit and insert video into PowerPoint presentations with a single button click. The combination of ISM’s DVR and MVP represent the only comprehensive solution for the recording, editing, and PowerPoint integration of digital video. Since its inception, ISM has been and continues to be driven to identify and address real world problems with innovative, market-leading solutions.

Image Stream Medical’s latest generation image management device, nStream™, is designed to act as the central point of focus for image management in the surgical theater. When combined with ISM’s LiveStream™, digital video broadcasting throughout the hospital is enabled and nurses and physicians have unprecedented visibility into the OR. With the addition of ISM’s VaultStream™, a server based repository of digital videos, physicians access to the patient’s electronic medical record is extended into ORs, special procedure rooms, consultation areas, physician’s offices or to secure computers worldwide.

Examples of ISM leadership and success include the installation of 42 digital operating suites and a state of the art conferencing center at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB). At UAB, video from any device in the OR can be routed on demand to in-room monitors, external ORs, pathology, the conferencing center, or anywhere in the world outside the UAB facility. Image Stream Medical takes great pride in having implemented nStream™, VaultStream™, and LiveStream™ at many of the most respected institutions in the world including Barrow Neurological Institute, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Johns Hopkins University, National Institute of Health, University of California San Francisco (UCSF), University of Pennsylvania, Vanderbilt University, and Walter Reed Army Hospital.

World class products and world class customers demand world class support. Image Stream Medical’s 24 hour help desk is available live to address problems and questions and our network operations center supports real-time remote monitoring of hardware, software and operations. Our systems and support staff often recognize and resolve potential problems before they have the chance to occur.
