Image Stream Medical Passes VistA Imaging Testing

Nov. 14, 2006 Littleton, MA - Image Stream Medical (ISM) is pleased to announced that nStream™, ISM’s centralized digital video recording system, has been validated for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM®) conformance, following a rigorous battery of tests by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) VistA Imaging Project.
The VA's VistA Imaging Project is designed to make the complete multimedia patient record available to both clinicians and patients, ensuring accurate, accessible and timely record keeping. DICOM conformance ensures that a medical device that creates images produces those images in a standardized manner so that other medical devices will be able to interpret them correctly.
In order to create uniformity throughout the VA hospital network, the VA designed a series of tests to ensure that a medical imaging device utilizing DICOM meets the functionality needed by the VA and Department of Defense (DoD) and will work seamlessly within their imaging network. With very few independent DICOM validation tests available, the VA’s test results are highly valued, and are often considered a gold standard.
As an approved medical device which utilizes DICOM, any VA/DoD facility seeking to implement technology that captures and stores medical video and images can select nStream with the assurance that nStream has met the VA/DoD's criteria for DICOM, and will function according to the VA/DoD DICOM specifications. Having nStream available as a solution, will streamline the purchasing/planning process for the VA/DoD, and help to expose VA/DoD physicians to the same breakthrough technology available to hospitals in the public arena.
